Job

An experienced Systems Engineer is required to work on the Galileo Ground Control Segment (GCS), a key component of the Galileo Navigation System, and for which Astrium is the Prime Contractor

The person appointed will require a good understanding of system engineering practices and in particular requirements and technical baseline management, the definition and evaluation of technical solutions, and requirements verification. This will involve facilitating and chairing technical meetings between various parties.

The GCS is a complex system, comprising of several elements, and a willingness and capability to learn on the job is therefore essential.

The role is based at the Portsmouth site but willingness to travel in Europe to support meetings, reviews, etc is essential.

Tasks:

¤ The analysis of Evolution Maintenance Requests (EMR) detailing GCS technical enhancements required by ESA
¤ The technical discussion and agreement of new requirements and solutions for SW and networks based systems with the GCS Design Authority
¤ The development and flow down of enhancement requirements to Subcontractors
¤ The evaluation of Subcontractor EMR responses
¤ Assistance in the generation and submission of Evolution Maintenance Proposals to ESA
¤ Updating of the GCS technical baseline in accordance with the EMRs implemented
¤ Ensuring EMRs are processed in accordance with the GCS Service Level Agreement
¤ Participation in Anomaly Review (AR) Boards and assistance with the facilitation of anomaly resolution activities where this is required
¤ Maintenance of a maintenance release/software patch delivery tracker for EMR and AR fixes
¤ Support to other GCS Segment level Engineering activities as required

Profile

Qualifications and/or Skills:

Essential: Complex systems engineering (servers, workstations, IT,COTS, Software), requirements management,
understanding of ground system architecture and operations. Ability to present complex technical solutions to the Customer andother parties.

Key to the role are good communications skills and the ability to interface and work with others (ESA, Subcontractors and other members of the GCS team) on technical matters.

Desirable: Familiarity with Telelogic DOORS, SCOS 2000, Focus Suite, Linux and Java.
Previous Experience

Essential: 5 to 10 years of significant complex systems engineering experience in ground systems

Desirable: Experience of ESA ground systems programmes. Experience of ground segment design and more specifically SW and network systems design.

Candidates coming from aerospace, defence or aeronautics will be preferred.
