Job
An experienced Hardware (HW) and Software (SW) Systems Engineer is required to work on the Galileo Ground Control Segment (GCS), a key component of the Galileo Navigation System, and for which Astrium is the Prime Contractor. This will involve facilitating and chairing technical meetings between various parties.
The GCS is a complex system, comprising of several elements, and willingness and capability to learn on the job is therefore essential.
Tasks:
¤ The development of GCS HW and SW obsolescence management plans, policies and strategies
¤ The monitoring, early identification and assessment of GCS HW and SW obsolescence issues in collaboration with
Subcontractors
¤ The identification and co-ordination of activities required to overcome obsolescence issues (lifetime buy, sourcing of alternatives etc)
¤ The monitoring and assessment of HW and SW COTS advisories in collaboration with Subcontractors
¤ The identification and co-ordination of activities required to address COTS issues
¤ The maintenance of GCS SW licence and HW & SW warranty trackers including expiry dates
¤ Ensuring HW spares and consumables levels are maintained
¤ The maintenance of the GCS Packing, Shipping, Storage & Transportation Plan
¤ The establishment and monitoring of repair contracts with 3rd party repair organisations
¤ The selection and sourcing of alternative HW and SW items in collaboration with Subcontractors where this is required
¤ Support to segment engineering activities as required
Profile
Qualifications and/or Skills
Essential: Good knowledge of current IT HW & SW related products. (HP servers, workstations, firewalls and network equipment of complex ground control systems)
The person appointed will require a good understanding of HW and SW systems and the issues associated with maintaining such systems over the support period. Key to the role are good communications skills and the ability to interface and work with others (ESA, Subcontractors and other members of the GCS team) on technical matters.
Desirable: experience with Linux, HP hardware

Essential: Maintenance of HW and SW systems specifically IT systems
Desirable: Experience of Tracking, Telemetry & Command system HW & SW, obsolescence management
